   a long time ago, on a planet far far away... nothing much happened; but on earth in 1977, brian daniel viehland was born outside boston. growing up in st louis, brian developed an interest in fine arts through music, drama, photography, and drawing. during high school, he also developed a strong math and science background.

   after graduating from normandy high school as valedictorian, he attended rensselaer polytechnic institute to study architecture. after receiving his bachelor of architecture, bachelor of science, and certificate in architectural acoustics, brian moved to pittsburgh where he married his wife, monique. he started out as an architectural intern working at lami grubb architects where he quickly completed the required idp training, took the a.r.e., passing all 9 divisions the first time, and became a licensed pennsylvania architect. after working as a project architect for a number of years, brian relocated to trenton, nj, where he started his own firm, design on the square.

   as a licensed architect in pennsylvania new york and new jersey, brian was able to become involved in numerous types of projects, from community centers and residential additions to research laboratories and retail stores. more information on these projects is located under the architecture tab on this page.

   on a personal level, brian has been involved in a number of professional, religious, and social groups in the area. he spent 4 years working during the weekends as the youth director for a local church, is a member of the new jersey chapter of the aia, and is a member of lodge 45 and newtown lodge 427 of the free & accepted masons of pennsylvania.
